Mirror of the Holiday
Welcome to the week the holidays begin.
Before the gatherings, before the meals, before the travel—
I invite you to pause and ask yourself one simple question:
What is my biggest challenge with the holidays?
Take a moment right now and actually name it.
Now ask yourself this:
Does this only show up around the holidays?
Or do I notice the same pattern at other times of the year—just with different people, places, or situations?
Maybe it’s not the holidays that create the challenge.
Maybe it’s the added stress, the expectations, the timelines, and the family dynamics that simply amplify what’s already underneath.
So the real question becomes:
Are we really different during the holidays?
Are our families really different?
Or do the holidays simply bring out certain emotional states that already live inside us?
Often, during periods of stress, we revert to default ways of protecting ourselves.
That can show up as impatience, harshness, withdrawal, or judgment—of others and of ourselves.
The important thing to remember is this:
These reactions are not the whole truth of who we are.
They are simply ways we respond when we’re under pressure.
This holiday season, let’s bring awareness to how we—and those around us—may be responding differently.
And maybe we can meet that with compassion.
Compassion for the stress people are under.
Compassion for what it takes to gather, to give, and to receive.
Because when the light of awareness shines, we can begin to see things as they truly are.
And from that place, real change becomes possible—not by forcing ourselves to be different, but by learning to work with our emotional body instead of stuffing it down.
A Simple Holiday Breath Practice
The Start of Our Inner Truth Breath
You can do this breath anywhere—even in the middle of a gathering.
It’s quiet, powerful, and it’s a gift your soul gives to everyone around you.
Inhale fully into the center of your chest — the place where we all connect.
Gently hold, receiving all the light and love you have given and received throughout your entire life.
Exhale slowly, imagining that love and light expanding outward—touching and enveloping all who are near, and all who live in your heart.
Repeat for as many rounds as the number of cookies you’ve most recently eaten.
(For me… that was six rounds!)
This breath doesn’t change anyone else.
It changes how you show up.
And that shift alone can change everything.
This week, keep track of what shows up.
Notice where you feel it in your body.
Notice the story your mind tells.
Awareness is the first turning point.
And remember—everyone else is carrying their own story too.
With love and presence,
